What a day it was!
After 12 hours of decorating, challenges, music, guests, laughter and live broadcasting, we are absolutely delighted to announce that our Soma’s Light Bake-a-thon has raised an incredible £4,000 for The Peedie Retreat! 🎉
The total was made up of £2,960 raised through the livestream, alongside an amazing £950 raised through our raffle.
We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better response from the Orkney community.
🧁 12 hours, one incredible day
From 8am until 8pm, the St Magnus Centre became the home of our Bake-a-thon.

Over the course of the 12 hours, we had baking, music, special guests, challenges and plenty of things happening on screen.
For those watching online, we wanted to make it feel like more than simply watching people bake. With multiple cameras, live graphics, music, interviews, challenges and fundraising updates, the livestream became a full day of entertainment — and it was brilliant to see so many people joining us throughout the day.
There were plenty of laughs along the way, and probably a fair bit of tiredness by the end of it!
But every hour was worth it when we saw the donations coming in.
📺 £2,960 raised through the livestream
The support from everyone watching the livestream was absolutely incredible.
Together, viewers donated £2,960 during the broadcast.
Every donation, whether large or small, helped us work towards our overall fundraising target and showed just how much support there is for The Peedie Retreat and the families who use it.
Seeing the total continue to rise throughout the 12 hours was a huge motivation for everyone involved.
🎟️ And another £950 from the raffle!
Our £1 raffle was another fantastic success, raising an additional £950.
We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who bought tickets, sold tickets and helped spread the word.
The raffle gave people another way to support the fundraiser while also having the chance to win some fantastic prizes, with the draw taking place at the end of the Bake-a-thon.
💛 But what will the money actually help provide?
This is the part that makes all of the hard work worthwhile.
The money raised will help The Peedie Retreat towards purchasing an interactive touchscreen device for the retreat.
This isn’t simply a piece of technology to sit in a room. The touchscreen will give families staying at The Peedie Retreat the opportunity to play interactive games together in a safe and accessible environment.
It will provide another way for families to spend time together, have fun and create positive memories during what can otherwise be an incredibly difficult period in their lives.
That’s exactly what the fundraising was about.
It’s about creating opportunities for fun, joy and togetherness for children and families who need it.
🙌 Thank you, Orkney!
A fundraiser like this simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of so many people.
Thank you to everyone who donated during the livestream, bought raffle tickets, helped sell tickets, provided prizes, appeared as a guest, performed music, helped with the baking, shared our posts or simply tuned in and supported us throughout the day.
A huge thank you also goes to everyone behind the scenes who helped make the event happen.
From the people preparing the food and running the Bake-a-thon to those working behind the cameras and keeping the livestream running, there were a lot of moving parts involved in making 12 hours of live broadcasting happen!
And, of course, thank you to The Peedie Retreat for allowing us to support such a fantastic cause.
🎉 £3,910 raised!
When we first announced the Bake-a-thon, we knew we wanted to put on something that would bring people together and raise money for The Peedie Retreat.
We couldn’t have imagined just how successful it would become.

From all of us at Soma’s Light — thank you. 💛
What started as an idea for 12 hours of baking turned into a fantastic day of community, entertainment and fundraising.
And most importantly, it will help bring a little more fun and joy to families at The Peedie Retreat.
Thank you, Orkney. 💛
