On Thursday the 18th of December 2025, Christmas came early for Soma’s Light as a group of pupils from Stromness Academy won in their YPI Finals!
These group of students had presented a heartfelt presentation as to why Soma’s Light deserves the money to support what they do. They included stories of their own struggles with mental health, and as to why this topic is so important to them.
YPI Stands for the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative and it is a “Major active citizenship programme in Scottish secondary schools, managed and principally funded by The Wood Foundation. It empowers young people to engage in philanthropy by researching local social issues and grassroots charities, with the goal of securing a £3,000 grant for a chosen charity. “
We as a charity are so fortunate to have so many positivity from pupils from many High Schools in Orkney choose our charity as part of their projects.
Thank you to Sophie, Issy, Cayla, Alisa and Lily
