12 Hours of Baking, Fun and Fundraising – The Soma’s Light Bake-a-thon in aid of The Peedie Retreat
We’re excited to announce our next major fundraiser for Soma’s Light — and this one is going to be a big one!
Following the success of our previous fundraising efforts, we’re getting ready to take on a 12-hour Bake-a-thon in aid of The Peedie Retreat.
The event will bring together baking, music, challenges, guests, fundraising and plenty of fun for one packed day — all while raising money for an incredibly important cause.
🧁 12 hours of baking!
The Bake-a-thon will take place in Kirkwall, running from 8am until 8pm on Saturday 15 August 2026.
Throughout the 12 hours, there will be plenty happening, with different guests and activities planned across the day.
The idea is to keep things moving throughout the full 12 hours, with something for people to tune in to whether they’re watching for five minutes or sticking with us for the whole day!
And yes… there will be plenty of baking involved! 🎂
📺 Watch it live
One of the biggest parts of the event will be our live broadcast, allowing people to follow along from wherever they are.
The livestream will be produced locally, with multiple cameras, live graphics, audio and everything else needed to bring the Bake-a-thon to life on screen thanks to Aaron Budge Photography and Trevor Spence from Cloudnet IT Solutions.
There will be regular guests, challenges, music and fundraising updates throughout the day, making it much more than simply watching people bake.
We’re hoping it will feel like a proper little live television production — just with plenty more cake!
🎡 Spin the Wheel!
One of the fun elements planned for the day is our Spin the Wheel challenges.
We’ll be putting our guests through a variety of challenges during the 12 hours, with the wheel deciding what happens next.
Exactly what we’ll be getting people to do… well, you’ll have to tune in to find out!
🎶 Music and special guests
There will also be live music throughout the day, helping to keep things going between the baking and challenges.
We’re delighted to have local musicians involved, with performances planned alongside other guests and contributors.
There will also be regular guests joining us throughout the day, so you never quite know who might appear on screen.
💛 Raising money for The Peedie Retreat
Most importantly, the Bake-a-thon is all about raising money for The Peedie Retreat.
The fundraising will support Phase 3 of The Peedie Retreat project, helping towards its “Fun and Joy” plans, including outdoor play and equipment for children and families affected by cancer, MS and MND.
For Soma’s Light, supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young people is at the heart of what we do. We know how important spaces like The Peedie Retreat can be for children and families going through incredibly difficult circumstances.
That’s why we’re delighted to be able to put on an event that can hopefully raise some money while also bringing the community together for a day of fun.
🎟️ There’ll be more ways to get involved
There will also be a raffle running alongside the event, with tickets available for just £1.
Tickets will be available from a number of local locations in the run-up to the event, with the draw taking place at 8pm, at the end of the Bake-a-thon.
We’ll be announcing more information about the raffle, prizes and where you can get your tickets as we get closer to the big day.
